1 & 5: Bipolar Disorder
"Why is the five orange?"
Because too many people have misconceptions on what living with bipolar disorder is like, and we need to talk about it to change that.
Living with bipolar disorder is more than 'just mood swings'. Bipolar disorder is characterized by episodes of highs and lows. For most, these episodes are separated by periods of stability. People may go for months, sometimes even years without an episode by managing the illness well.
"Mixed episodes scare me the most. That's where I feel like I completely lose myself." Anna, 23.
Orange is believed to balance physical energies, whether high or low. That's why we've made it our 1 & 5 colour for bipolar disorder.
One in five people will experience mental illness this year. If we're going to put an end to discrimination based on mental illness, including bipolar disorder, we need to start talking about it more, and in more meaningful ways.
